A 10-year work anniversary is not just about numbers— it is about the stories, growth, and connections built over time. This month, we are proud to spotlight Svetoslav Georgiev, a dedicated Software Developer who has been an integral part of TSD since 2014.
Starting his journey as a junior developer, Svetoslav has grown into a skilled team member, contributing to multiple projects and continuously evolving with the ever-changing tech landscape. In this interview, he reflects on his early days, the challenges he has overcome, and the lessons he has learned over the years. Beyond his professional achievements, he also shares personal insights, giving us a glimpse into the person he is outside of work.
Celebrating ten years of growth, collaboration, and dedication! Let’s hear from Svetoslav in his own words.
1. Svetoslav, how did your journey with TSD start back in 2014? Do you remember your first day?
I had just completed Telerik’s Academy 2013-14 season and applied to multiple companies when I was recruited by TSD. I chose TSD because of the friendly atmosphere during the interview and the opportunity to start working on a project almost immediately. My first day was filled with jokes, and I remember feeling right in place.
2. What was your role in the beginning, and where are you at right now? Can you make a comparison between then and now?
I started by working on a new project focused on developing a responsive web application using the latest technology. Luckily, the tech stack matched what I had just learned during my education, giving me the chance to apply and expand my knowledge. The biggest difference between then and now is the experience I have gained, which helps me complete tasks with much less effort.
3. What are the everyday challenges you face in your work, and what are the fundamental skills or personal qualities needed to deal with those challenges?
Working with international clients can be challenging due to time zone differences. Sometimes, questions arise, and the person with the answers is not available until the end of the day. In these cases, you need to be proactive and find the answers yourself rather than waiting. Another key challenge is collaborating with multicultural teammates, which requires effective communication and respect for their unique ways of doing business.
4. What is your favorite part about working in TSD, and how does your job inspire you?
My favorite part about working at TSD is the work-life balance and the friendly atmosphere with both colleagues and management. I have always felt welcomed and like I belong here. As a software developer, solving problems has always been something I have loved, even as a kid. Whether it is a complex issue or a simple task, succeeding brings a sense of accomplishment – and then the next challenge comes along to keep me inspired.
5. What is the most important lesson you have learned over the years?
The most important lesson I have learned is to work smart, not hard. When faced with a task that seems massive, I used to dive in immediately without much planning. Now, I take a step back, think it through, break it down into smaller pieces, and tackle each piece systematically – breaking it down further if needed.
6. What does it take to become a Software Developer, and what would you advise the guys following your steps?
To become a software developer, you need a passion for solving logical problems and a commitment to continuous learning, as technology is always evolving. My advice is that while it might seem difficult at times, if you truly enjoy what you are doing, it will feel much easier.
7. Why do you choose to remain a part of the TSD team after 10 years? What has the company offered to you in terms of professional development?
Over the years, I have worked on multiple projects, which prevented me from getting too comfortable and always kept me alert. This also helped me improve my skills and learn new tricks. The work-life balance, as I mentioned earlier, has also been a key factor in my decision to stay with TSD for 10 years.
8. Who is Svetlio outside of the office, and what does he like to do for fun?
Outside the office, I am a father of two with a passion for traveling to new and old places around the world. I enjoy spending my free time with family, going out with friends, reading books, watching good movies, or relaxing with a football game.
9. What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?
My kids and my responsibility to help them become the best versions of themselves motivate me every morning. As parents, we strive to set the best possible example in all aspects of life – whether it is work, fun, or parenting.
10. How do you envision yourself in another 10 years?
I hope to remain healthy and maintain the drive to keep learning and improving myself, rather than just coasting through life.
